Basic acoustics tell us that traditional box speakers direct sound towards listeners mainly from the midrange upwards, while bass frequencies radiate all around. The frequency at which this transition occurs depends on the size of the front of the box (the "baffle"). The smaller the baffle, the higher the frequency at which bass sounds radiate all around instead of being directed towards the listener.
In short, this is why large speakers have historically provided more accurate timing and detail in the lower midrange and bass frequencies compared to small speakers: there's less interference in the room. And this is exactly what Kii has achieved with a compact speaker.

HIGH-END TECHNOLOGY IN A COMPACT DESIGN!
Every Kii THREE includes multi-channel DSP, multiple DACs, and amplifiers. Few companies could achieve such a compact design paired with truly world-class and high-performance electronics. Moreover, few active speakers were designed by people who previously preferred high-performance amplification and digital conversion from traditional, separate components.
Each Kii THREE includes 1500W of amplifier power. Bruno Putzeys designed the latest Class D technology. What sets the implementation in the Kii THREE apart is the combined voltage/current control loop, surpassing even a superior amplifier – actively improving driver distortion performance, contributing significantly to the speaker's extreme resolution.
This naturally means that the AD/DA conversion’s performance must match the amplifier’s. This task fell to Bart van der Laan, who has extensive experience in DSP and converter card design for top-tier professional audio equipment. The implementation by Kii Audio has been immensely successful: the complete passage through the THREE's signal processing card is completely free of noise and interference, a feat not even achieved by the most expensive audiophile standalone units.
In addition to the Active Wave Focusing filters, DSP is responsible for keeping the driver units within their safe operating range by finely adjusting filters rather than brutally limiting the signal, allowing the THREE to play significantly louder and cleaner than much larger traditional speakers.
On the input side, you can choose between analogue and digital inputs. All digital inputs are resampled and re-clocked using Kii's proprietary jitter-reduction algorithm, guaranteeing true "bit-for-bit" performance from any digital source.

Kii CONTROL
Digital preamplifier and USB interface with lossless volume control
The Kii CONTROL turns the Kii THREE into a complete playback system of the highest sound quality and usability. It offers a user interface for the speakers and functions as a digital preamplifier.
Connect a CD player/drive, server, streamer, TV, or set-top box to the controller for an impressively audiophile, comprehensive system with minimal space requirements.
All inputs are located on the rear connection panel and can be activated with touch buttons around the volume control. A dedicated input button (labelled XLR) switches to the speaker's existing hardware input, which can still be used as an analog or digital input. The Kii CONTROL connects with a single included CAT6 cable, providing power through this connection. No additional power supply is needed. Importantly, the Kii CONTROL allows lossless volume control within the Kii THREE's DSP, maintaining the clearest signal path possible. The large volume control offers mute or dim functions and manual power control (off, standby, LED brightness, DIM function, and limiter indication). A dedicated touch button provides direct access to up to six user-defined preset profiles. Menu navigation and an OLED display greatly expand settings options while providing access to more advanced system settings, including manual power control. Key functions such as volume, source, and mute can be controlled and accessed via remote and are compatible with most infrared remotes (RC5 type or Apple Remote).
The Kii CONTROL offers three additional digital inputs for the Kii THREE: coaxial SPDIF, optical TOSLINK, and USB (up to LPCM 24/384kHz or DSD64/128 via USB).
