Basic acoustics states that a conventional boxed speaker directs sound towards listeners starting from the midrange and upwards, while bass frequencies radiate in all directions. The frequency at which this change occurs depends on the size of the front part of the box (the "baffle"). The smaller the baffle, the higher the frequency at which the low sounds are radiated all around instead of being directed towards the listener.
In short, this is the reason why so far larger loudspeakers have provided much more accurate timing and detail in the bass and midrange frequencies than small speakers: there is less interference in the room. And this is what Kii has managed to achieve with a compact speaker.

HIGH-END TECHNOLOGY IN A COMPACT CASE
The Kii THREE includes a multi-channel DSP, multiple DACs, and power amplifiers. Few companies could produce such a compact design truly paired with world-class and high-performance electronics. However, few active loudspeakers have been designed by people who previously preferred high-performance amplification and digital conversion from traditional standalone devices.
Each Kii THREE includes 1500 W power amplification. Designed by Bruno Putzeys with the latest development of Class D technology. Unique in the implementation of the combined voltage/current control loop used in the Kii THREE, which goes beyond a conventional amplifier - actively improves the distortion performance of the drive units, contributing significantly to the speaker's extreme resolution.
This naturally means that the performance of the AD/DA conversion must match that of the amplifier. This task fell to Bart van der Laan, who has a great deal of experience in designing DSP and converter cards for top-of-the-line professional audio equipment. The implementation by Kii Audio has been a huge success: the full passage through the AD/DA circuitry of the THREE signal processing card is completely noise and interference-free, a feat that even the most expensive audiophile standalone units do not accomplish.
In addition to Active Wave Focusing filters, the DSP is responsible for keeping the drivers within a safe operating range by subtly adjusting the filters instead of brutally limiting the signal, allowing the THREE to play significantly louder and cleaner than much larger traditional speaker designs.
On the input side, you can choose between analog and digital inputs. All digital inputs must be resampled and rescheduled using Kii's own jitter-reduction algorithm, which guarantees true "bit for bit" audio performance with any digital source.
The electronic package itself represents a milestone. What it does together with its unique acoustic design defies imagination. You have to hear it to recognize the magnitude of the revolution that the Kii THREE represents.

Kii THREE system:
The Kii CONTROL turns the Kii THREE into a complete playback system with the highest sound quality and usability. The Kii CONTROL provides a user interface for the speakers, functioning as a digital preamplifier.
You can connect a CD player/drive, server, streamer, TV device, or set-top box to the controller to enjoy a breathtakingly audiophile, full system with impressively small footprint.
Each input is located on the rear connector panel and can be activated with the touch buttons around the volume control. A dedicated input button (labeled XLR) switches to the speaker's existing hardware input, which can still be used as an analog or digital input. The Kii CONTROL connects with a single included CAT6 cable and is powered through this connection as well. No additional power supply is needed. Most importantly, the Kii CONTROL enables lossless volume control within the Kii THREE DSP, keeping the signal path as transparent as possible. The large volume control also offers mute or dimming functions and manual power control (off, standby, LED brightness, DIM function, and limiter indication). The dedicated touch button provides direct access to up to six user-definable preset profiles. The menu navigation and OLED display significantly expand the settings options while providing access to advanced system settings, including manual power control. The main functions such as volume, source, and mute can also be handled from a remote control and are accessible through most infrared remote controls (RC5 type or Apple Remote).
The Kii CONTROL provides three additional digital inputs for the Kii THREE: coaxial SPDIF, optical TOSLINK, and USB (up to LPCM 24/384kHz or DSD64/128 via USB).
