TOPPING E30II
DESKTOP DAC
The Topping E30 II is a compact USB DAC with a performance that belies its size. It uses duplicated AKM AK4493S D/A chips, one of the most popular components in digital high fidelity, in a duplicated parallel configuration for even higher quality. The built-in XMOS XU208 unit provides a clean and stable connection to digital sources with USB output, while offering full compatibility with Windows, MAC, iOS, LINUX and Android. The unit has a 100-step volume control function, so it can be connected directly to a power amplifier or active speaker, but this function can also be switched off if required. The E30 converter is also equipped with an elegant and easy-to-read display and a touch-sensitive control surface.
HIGH-QUALITY CONVERSION
The AK4493S 32-bit D/A chip used for digital-to-analogue conversion is an upgraded version of the famous AK4490EQ with lower distortion and improved signal-to-noise ratio. It includes the popular Velvet Sound technology, which offers more accurate digital filters. With 8 options in total for PCM and DSD formats, you can tailor the sound to your specific needs.
The USB input is controlled by an XMOS interface, which allows support for high sampling frequencies up to 768 kHz, but also provides native DSD compatibility up to DSD512 in addition to DOP256. The integrated components deliver high sound clarity and extremely low distortion of 0.0003% with -130 dB channel-to-channel pass-through, 121 dB signal-to-noise ratio and 119 dB true dynamic range. This level of technical performance is usually only available from much more expensive and larger devices.
Unlike most compact D/A converters that use the problematic micro USB port, the Topping E30 incorporates a full-size USB-B socket, which gives it a big advantage over its competitors in terms of reliability and durability. The Version II has an improved power supply, resulting in even lower electrical noise levels than its predecessor. As a new feature, the E30 II automatically switches off if not used for more than one minute.
The power consumption of the device is low enough that it can be fully powered via a USB port, but a standard DC socket has also been built in to which any 5-volt external power supply or even a phone charger can be connected.
The coaxial and optical SPDIF inputs allow the E30 to be connected to a wide range of digital sources, so you can connect a CD player, TV, media player or games console to enjoy higher quality sound than usual. Its SPDIF interface uses an AK4118 low-jitter chip that supports 24-bit/192 kHz resolution. The output is a standard RCA stereo connector pair with variable volume.
Sources can be selected using the front panel touch button or the supplied infrared remote control.
