ONIX's first portable player. The XM5 was launched to great reviews, with specifications comparable to the Shanling M5 Ultra, but with a warm yet detailed sound in keeping with its British roots. The Miracle streaming stack-inspired Overture with the excellent ES9039PRO DAC (digital-to-analogue converter) chip and dual TPA6120A2 amplifiers delivers over 1W @ 32 Ohms power, 32bit 768kHz and DSD512 resolution. The sound is dynamic and highly detailed, with vocals that are as energetic as smooth. The on-board 3.5mm SE and 4.4mm BAL headphone outputs are paired with a three-position gain mode in the menu, giving a suitable user experience for most in-ear monitors and headphones.
The unique, simple and fast closed operating system is powered by an Ingenic X2000 processor and XMOS XU316 USB chip, perfectly handling high-resolution files. In addition to Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity with aptX HD and LDAC resolutions, Tidal streaming via WiFi 2.4G/5G DLNA or AirPlay is possible, and high-resolution files can be enjoyed via a MicroSD card (expandable up to 2TB). The XM5 also works great as a USB DAC/AMP, and can even be paired with monoblock amplifiers with the right cable.
The unmistakable ONIX design is the same as Overture, Mystic and Miracle, with a CNC machined aluminium chassis. Weighing in at 275g, the robust and sturdy black enclosure features a stylish gold-plated volume dial and four physical knobs, with the fn button being customisable. Behind the 3" OLED touchscreen display lies a 7000mAh capacity battery, which can reach a maximum of 14 hours of battery life via the 3.5mm SE output and can be charged via the Type-C port.
The XM5 Overture was born to be a portable player, but will also find its place as part of most home HiFi systems. Audiophile users will always find new ways to exploit the full potential of Overture! The Overture has an optional nappa leather protective case available.
